Anode rods extend the life of you water tank and should be checked regularly. Replace when 75% of the anode rod has been consumed.

Flexible anodes are great for hot water tanks which are in hard-to-reach places, making it difficult or impossible to install a traditional stiff anode rod. For example, if you’re trying to install an anode in a hot water tank which is close to an eave, it would be easiest to use a flexible anode which can bend to the shape you need it to be.

What is a sacrificial anode?

Most tank-based hot water systems feature what’s known as a ‘sacrificial anode’. A sacrificial anode is a metal rod, normally made from aluminium or magnesium and coated in zinc, which hangs down inside your hot water tank. The sacrificial anode is designed to attract minerals and impurities in the water which would otherwise react with the inside of the tank and cause it to rust and deteriorate. This ‘sacrificial’ rod slowly rusts and degrades, sacrificing its own life for the greater good of your hot water tank.

Perhaps the most important aspect of hot water system maintenance is routinely replacing your sacrificial anode as and when necessary.
